There are two very different ways windows go into a house, and they are not interchangeable. A replacement window gets fitted into an existing, finished opening — the old frame usually stays put, and the new unit is sized to slide inside it. A new-construction window is installed during framing, before siding and often before the house wrap is fully dressed in around the opening.
