A new-construction window goes into a raw, framed opening before the siding, trim, or house wrap details are finished. It's attached directly to the sheathing with a nailing fin or flange, and it depends entirely on how well that flange integrates with the weather-resistive barrier (WRB) and flashing underneath the cladding.
